Parent Children comparison
The top three pictures are of Otis Broadus (my paternal grandfather) his eldest son and my father, Paul Broadus, and my mother, Ruth (Durling) Broadus, taken when they were between 17 and 25 yrs old. The bottom four are their children at around the same age: Ed in college, Don and Carolyn's wedding pictures and David's High School graduation picture. I need a better picture of Don around that age and one of Mary taken when they were between 17 and 25, and the family portrait will be complete.
I have a far better picture of Don than this. It was his high school grad pix, I think & when I get back home I will post it. I also have a copy of your Dad which I have promised to send to Carolyn. Maybe you can wheedle her out of it.
Thanks, Jean. I used to have a picture of him in his sailor uniform, but I can't find it now. I was sure someone would come up with a better one that this.
Sam, I read about a study that said children usually look more their fathers. It makes sense, maternity is easy to determine and paternity is not. So there is an advantage to children who look like their fathers.
I watched a TV show (think Jami did, too) about a condition called chimera (I think) that sometimes makes establishing maternity difficult, because the mother carries two sets of DNA. One more of those things that we have taken for granted and isn't always that way.
On the looking like, I do have some definite Broadus features (no untoward comments here, please) but some definite Durling features, because I (and I noticed that Mary does, also) look like Bertha, at least somewhat.
