Howdy

Hi! I found pictures easier than posting, so I did those first. I am Jami Allen, daughter of Nancy Davis, granddaughter of Carolyn and David Snow, Great Niece of our beloved blog host David. I have two daughters, Khrystalynn Skye Allen and Elizabeth Jean Allen. I have 2 semesters left to finish my Bachelor's degree in Psychology ( I do believe it is in my blood.) I am engaged to be married on September 3rd to the only man on Earth good enough for me ;). John and I met on Webdate, an internet dating site, and I told my best friend the very next day that I had met the man I was going to marry. After giving ALL of his info including dl # and ss# to half of the people in East Texas lest he actually be a mass murderer, I went up to Ardmore Oklahoma, stayed with him for 4 days, and came home to finish my finals, went back two days later, and brought him home. I did much praying and bothering Granny about living with someone I wasn't married to, but he belongs with me, and we are soon to remedy that situation. I always wanted to find a man that reminded me of my Poppy, or my Uncle Russell, and I found one that has facets of all the Snow men.
I am at present spending my last free summer at home with the kids, and loving most of it. My best friend Mary (who some of you know) recently moved from Ruston, LA to an apartment 2 blocks away, so I am happy about that. Khrystalynn is about to start the second grade, which just blows me away because just yesterday or the day before, she was still in diapers. Beth actually is still in diapers, but we are starting the potty training thing, only now it is known as potty learning, and potty teaching, because training, I suppose, is something you do with wild animals, not precious little angel children who are not housebroken and act just like wild animals. So this is my life, it is good, and I am pleased.

Just When You Think You Have Seen It All

This morning about 6:00 AM my cat, Lucy, wanted out, so I dutifully got up and propped the door open for her and went back to bed.
About an hour later I hear some playful sounds in my bedroom, so I got up to see what was going on, and immediately see Lucy, which was strange, as she normally goes across the street and stays away for hours.
I realized she had brought home a critter and was playing with it. But, when I looked closer there appeared to be a block of wood over it. Then it hit me, and I turned over the wood slab to confirm my suspicions. She had found a mouse in someone's trap and drug it all home—mouse, mousetrap, and all. She was so proud of herself. Frankly, I thought it was pathetic. What kind of a hunter has to drag home something caught in someone else's trap?!
Of course, the mouse is dead now, so I have dead mouse and trap to dispose of. I would return the trap to it's rightful owner if I had a clue where she found it.

Speaking of Cats, I found this clip from an old (1985) Prarie Home Companion show. The guest was Willie Nelson, and that was around the time that Willie had teamed up with Julio Iglesias to record the duet For All the Girls I've Loved Before. For the PHC show, Willie teamed up with Johnny Gimble and did a slight variation titled For All The Cats I've Known Before. You can access the archived show and play it for yourself by clicking here. Anyone who has a cat or cats should appreciate the lyrics.

Sung to the tune of For All the Girls I’ve Loved Before

For all the cats I’ve known before
Who wanted to come in my door
And then they turned around
And wanted to go out
So they could come back in once more

To all the cats I once caressed
And scratched them up and down the neck
Did I scream because
I felt a set of claws
Start marching up my naked chest

To all the cats who shed their hair
And tripped me as I went downstairs
And left a you-know-what
Lying on the rug
And scratched up all my easy chairs

To all the cats I’ve every known
I hope you find another home
And if you think you might
Come see me, I’m all right
I think I’d rather be alone

Hello from Teri and Crystal

Hello Everyone,

I am sorry that I haven't posted sooner but I am really not very good at this. For those of you who don't know us, I am the youngest daughter of Don(deceased) and Jean Broadus(who is now Crawley) and Crystal is my daughter. I have a son also but he lives with his dad in Texas. We have been divorced for eight years now. Crystal is 13 and Cory is 16. I will try to post some pictures later on. I don't have any current ones so I will have to have some made. Up until about 5 months ago, I owned a beauty shop in the country here in Ark. It was a nice little country shop where I got to know my customers like they were family. I have home schooled Crystal for the past 4 and 1/2 years and love every minute of it. Due to Gov. regulations and not being able to get financing to move my shop, I was forced to close it and sell it. But, it was really a blessing in disguise. Crystal and I have been cleaning houses and it has really taken off. I have not done any advertising at all. But I have been sick twice with the p word that I cannot spell so I have decided to start a Home and Garden Party business. I am really excited about it because I love to give parties and I love to sell items such as these. And this company is based in Marshall Tx and all their pottery is made by hand there. I already have five parties scheduled with several more waiting to set a date.
Crystal and I are also involved with the Awana program at a local church. We go on mon and wed nights. This past June we attended their scholarship camp for the first time and we really loved it. It was a very moving experience for me and for Crystal and has really fired us up for the Lord and His work. In Sept. we are going to Nashville for the National Federation of Republican Women's Convention. Crystal was elected by the Arkansas Federation of Republican Women to represent our state as a page. She will carry the flag in the opening ceremony and get to take a free tour of Nashville. The president of AFRW is raising the money to pay for Crystal and I have been raising money for me as well. I am really excited about this opportunity because they will have workshops on speaking and effective leadership that will really be helpful to both of us.
Well this is just a little bit about us and I hope I didn't bore you too much. Thanks again for the invite and May God Bless All
Teri and Crystal

Welcome Jim Broadus

Please join me in welcoming the newest and surely one of the cutest additions to Encussions, Seth McKinlley Broadus, born February 29, 2004—a Leap Year baby!
Seth is the son of Michael and Carol Broadus, and Michael is the son of James Broadus.
James Broadus (or Jim as we know him) is the son of Wendell and Becky Broadus, and the brother of Patricia Broadus Langner.
Wendell Broadus was the second son of Otis and Pearl Broadus (my paternal grandparents).

Jim enjoyed a long and happy marriage to his wife, Judy. Sadly, Judy passed away five years ago this past April. I know Jim's son and grandson are a great comfort to him.

I have sent Jim an invitation to join and add his own posts if he cares to; meanwhile, I offered to post any pictures he wanted to be on Enscussions. My brother, Edwin, sent Seth's picture which Jim had sent to him. When he asked Jim's permission to post the picture on Enscussions, Jim replied in typical grandfatherly fashion.

A grandfather who does not want his grandson's picture
shown...you must be kidding! Post it as you see fit.
Welcome, Jim, and thanks for a great picture. I know you are proud of the little fella. We look forward to hearing and seeing more from your branch of the family.

Instructions for Posting Text and Pictures

It occured to me that some of you may not be as comfortable with Blogging as others, and that some might benefit from step-by-step directions for signing in to the Blog and adding text and pictures. To that end I created a how-to document complete with pictures and lines and arrows. You can open this document by clicking on the title of this post, or by clicking the item in the Links list, How to Post Text and Pictures.

Way back I posted directions for posting on the Blog. They are somewhat redundant to the link above, but you may find more helpful items there. Click here to see that post.

I hope this will be helpful. If anyone sees any errors or discrepencies in my directions, let me know and I will make the appropriate corrections.

The Motley Crew

This picture was taken in Topeka, Kansas in the summer of 1987, in the basement fellowship room of the Central Church of Christ located at the corner of Huntoon and College, close to downtown Topeka. The occasion was the 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Herbert and Elice Broadus, uncle and aunt to the five siblings pictured here. Herbert was the long-time minister at the Central Church, and I lived with them at the Parsonage next door when I was in the first through third grades.

For anyone reading this that may not know, I (David Broadus) am on the left, looking trim in comparison to the last few years. Standing next to me (with an unusually pious look on her face), is my sister, Carolyn Sue Broadus Snow.

The distinguished-looking gentleman standing in the middle is my eldest brother, Edwin Lee Broadus, with that ever so tiny hint of a smirk, as if he were about to pull one of his famous practical jokes on someone. I believe he was born with that smirk.

Next to him is my oldest sister, Mary Louise Broadus Brown, looking better than I have seen her in years. (Mary and I both could stand to lose 100 pounds, although I hear she just lost 30, so she is ahead of me. You go, girl!)

The "Casual Male" standing on the far right is my brother, Donald Jean Broadus (now deceased; may he rest in peace in that great organic garden in the sky, surrounded by all the junk and used tires in the universe). I believe the last time he was seen in a dress coat and tie was in the summer of '62. For him to dress up as much as he did for this occastion is like the rest of us donning tuxedos and evening gowns.
